It's the eye of the tiger...

I happened upon this article about a lovely, passionate man who runs an animal sanctuary for exotic carnivores (side note: wouldn’t you love to be described as an exotic carnivore!?!? No??? Just me then…) in Colorado. I am an animal lover, but wouldn’t have the passion or drive to fall onto the animal activist spectrum (plus sometimes animals are jerks, let’s be honest people). This man sounds truly amazing and inspiring, but the article also mentioned how his wife ended up leaving him which is totally sad but somewhat expected when you’ve got not one but three packs of wolves hanging out. I love hearing about people who start organizations or other things that no one would ever think of- like who decides one day that they are going to run an orphanage for old circus animals??? I'll tell you who- former math teacher, Pat Craig. I never have ideas like that; I can barely decide what to eat for dinner let alone what sort of world wide phenomena I should start. And btw- where is Ty Pennington when you need him? Shouldn’t “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” be starting to build this guy a better house and more barns for tigers?

Deep breaths, I can do this

I find that writing a blog entry scares the bejeesus out of me.  I automatically feel like I’m 10 years old watching someone read an entry from my diary.

Anyways, my name is Karissa.  Some things about me that I'm sure will come up again in some form or fashion.
  • I’m married to a wonderful man, Joe.  We actually met a little over three years ago through Match.com.  Yes, online dating can work!  It took a lot of patience and frustration but it was all worth it.
  • I work as a corporate librarian.
  • I live right in the middle of ACC country so it’s very hard to avoid the basketball hype.  I’m a huge UNC fan but my husband loves Duke.  We’ve just learned to sit in different rooms of the house when they play each other.
  • I love baking.  It’s my creative outlet (and did I mention that I have a big sweet tooth?).
  • I love the sound of the ocean and feeling sand beneath my feet.
I'm sure there are some other things that will come up soon but until then...

P.S. I agree with you, Mindy. I'm a little terrified of Watson right now.

Don't call it a comeback...

Not to be dramatic or anything, but I am having some serious anxiety about Watson possibly beating two humans on Jeopardy. They have one day left to make a comeback, but things are not looking too good (Find your buzzer button already Ken!). I will probably lose 4 hours and 37 minutes of sleep over this tonight. Check back tomorrow- we may have a "rise of the machines" crisis on our hands.

It felt like an anxiety attack...

But then I realized I was just going through chocolate withdrawal so I ate another piece of cake.

Meet Kate

I enjoy eating desserts...not making them. I'd describe myself as a book worm and talent-less crafter. I like peaches, clean sheets, nail polish and roses. I reside in the political capital of the world but spend my time thinking about fashion and puppies and vacations. I text. Today, my favorite color is yellow and I'm in love with sunshine. I take baths...daily. I drink beer...daily.  I dream a lot and make tons of lists. I'd like to be one of those people that says "Pardon". I change my mind frequently, I think that's ok. Hi, it's nice to meet you.

Please allow me to introduce myself...

Greetings future followers! (No followers yet- is this blog a fail blog?? What have we gotten ourselves in to!?!?) Well I suppose I will be the first of the girls posting my intro. I’m Mindy- sometimes “Em” for blogging purposes. At the start of this blog I am a single (shoot me), 28 year old (tick-tock fertility clock), living in Central PA (Pennsylvania for those of you not in the know). I quit my corporate job a little over a year ago to enter Nursing School- yay saving people’s lives! (I like parenthesis and will use them often in my writing, get used to it buddy). I haven’t had a full time job since fall 2009 so I travel a lot and have been going on mini-adventures as often as I can.

Things I will be discussing: My crazy relationship with my lovely mother, who has been my roomie since my dad passed away in 2006; Music and Movies- two of my biggest loves in life (bonus points to anyone picking up on the Rolling Stones lyric), PLUS my sister works in the film industry and I’m not afraid of shameless promotion; Books- I’m a fairly large nerd and am afraid to start using the Kindle I was given a few weeks ago because I really truly love going to the library; Hilarious videos/other blogs- I love to “LOL” as the kids say; Sports- I’m a girly girl at heart, but I worship Steelers and Penn State football so don’t be surprised if a few Joe Pa quotes work their way into this site; Of course you can expect lots of awkward dates/guy stories since I am single and on the prowl (is my use of the word “prowl” what is keeping me single!?!? You be the judge).

Things my posts won’t have: proper grammar/spelling; tips on home decorating (holler if you live with your mom!); good recipes (I know that Shamrock Shakes are currently available at McDonalds if that tells you anything); or any other things intelligent people would actually be interested in. My lovely blogmates will handle those topics because that’s what friends are for. I’m so excited to start this little internet adventure with my best friends- they are some of the greatest people you’d ever have the pleasure of knowing (or in this case, stalking on the internet).

Hope everyone enjoys what we have to say- we think we’re hilarious and interesting! In closing, please enjoy this photo of me stuck in a motorcycle helmet.

Why are we writing a blog?

This past weekend, we got together for a ‘girlfriends’ weekend in Washington, D.C.  During the endless chatter, we all realized how much we enjoyed reading various blogs but none of us felt like we had anything that warranted writing our own.  Until we realized that if we joined together, we do!  We are four women in our late twenties (thirty is approaching way too fast!).  We are best friends living in four different cities in very different stages of our lives.  It’s hard to keep up with each other but by having an online diary of sorts, maybe it’ll be easier.  Where will we be when we’re 30? 40? Or even 50?  I hope it’s together, wherever that may be.
