I just got off the phone with my dad. He is in the process of doing his tax returns (my mom has FINALLY convinced him that grudgingly waiting in line at the post office at 11:00 p.m. on April 14th is not all that its cracked up to be). It reminded me of a tradition (see below) that I miss being a part of. So, as a sort-of written reminder to myself (and perhaps a few ideas for you), I’d like to make a list of traditions I want to start/continue with my family and kids.
January 1—go out to a big lunch to celebrate the New Year
February—take a short winter vacation at the beach
February-April—blast patriotic music as I do my taxes (Listening to “God Bless the USA ” makes the process of paying Uncle Sam much more bearable)
March 17—dinner with corned beef, cabbage and mashed potato dinner (with a side of Guinness)
March/April--field trip to DC to see the amazing Cherry Blossoms
Easter—dye Easter eggs to see who can make the ugliest egg.
Easter—dye Easter eggs to see who can make the ugliest egg.
June 21—celebrate the first day of summer by going night swimming.
Summer vacation—at least once during a week-long vacation, let the kids eat dessert before their dinner.
Mid-October—pumpkin carving contest.
November 11--take a moment (or a day) to thank U.S. veterans
Week before Thanksgiving—fill a “thankfulness” jar to remember how blessed I am
Thursday/Friday of Thanksgiving—midnight shopping with my mom, sisters and daughters
December 24—pre-/post- Christmas Eve mass buffet filled with delicious appetizers
December 31—pack away Christmas decorations with a message about what I think the upcoming year will bring
Please post a comment with your favorite tradition!
Hugs to our followers,
